Yamin was born in Los Angeles, California to father Shaul Yamin, an Israeli of Iraqi Jewish descent, and mother Claudette Goldberg Yamin. At the age of 13, after suffering numerous ear infections, Elliot lost 90% of his hearing following eardrum replacement surgery in his right ear. As a singer, overcoming such a loss is a very difficult task requiring much discipline.
Elliot serves as a spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Yamin, himself, suffers from Diabetes and has performed at many events on behalf of this cause.
